I haven't been making any real notes on my health progress, so I guess this might be a good place to do it. But first, I must provide info up to the present...

The following is behind a cut because it's really more for me than anything, and reading about other people's diets is usually boring.

About a year ago, I went to the doctor for the first time in ages, and weighed in (also for the first time in awhile) to discover that I had finally done what I never thought I would: I'd breached 300 lbs. I started making plans to try to lose it soon, though not immediately, as I was in a place and situation at the time where healthy, fresh food was hard to keep in the house, mostly because of the expense connected to it. My plans were shifted to the time after Phar and I married, and had arrived safely in AU. To my surprise, by the time we got there, I had already lost 15 lbs just in the weeks we'd been traveling. I reckoned I couldn't give up after a head start like that, so I've been whittling away at it ever since...

A simple change in diet lost me almost 50 pounds in the first eight months before the weight finally stopped coming off, after which I knuckled under on the exercise by joining a local gym/pool, which I still attend for 90 minutes a day, 3 days a week. The plateau lasted for nearly two months, and out of concern I got an appointment with my current doctor, that being the first time I'd addressed the issue with him. While happy that I'd lost so much already, he still wasn't at all pleased about my current 260-pound girth, classed me as still 'morbidly obese', and assigned me something of a crash diet until I get myself under 100 kg/220 lbs, and out of this range. I have a major disagreement with diets in general (especially ones named after some dude, like this 'Tony Ferguson' diet I'm on now, as it screams 'fad diet' to me), and hate them, but it does seem to have lost me a few pounds, so I guess I should give it a chance. It's one of those meal-replacement shake ones, with the intake of 'real' food highly restricted and categorized. Wish me luck, and by the time I see the US next summer, I should be right. =)

STATS (rounded to nearest pound/kilo/fraction of stone):

Orig. weight: 304 lbs/138 kg/21 stone 10
Current weight: 254 lbs/115 kg/18 stone 2
Short goal: 218 lbs/99 kg/15 stone 8
Long goal: 160 lbs/173 kg/11 stone 6

Total loss: 50 lbs/23 kg/3 stone 8
Loss from diet: 5 lbs/2 kg/1/3 stone

First of all, congratulations on what you've done so far!

I hope that diet ends up working for you. I wonder if the weight won't just come back once you stop living on the shakes?

Well, good luck!

Thanks! And that is exactly what I've been worried about since day one. I think I've just about decided, doctor or no, I need to tweak this plan a bit or do some experimenting, because it just doesn't seem right for me at all.
