mood: tired tired

I was away for most of this past week, as some of you might have noticed... I had to help my grandparents move from the house they'd lived in for 40 years, up to my mother's house (my grandmother's pretty infirm, and she needed to not be in their split-level house anymore). That went well in the end, though it was clearly a job... Before all that, though, I had to make a little visit to the doctor.

(Note: I may talk a little about female problems, so if you're at all squeamish about the fact that girls bleed, watch your step. =p)

I'd been having two problems lately, one being some strange 'head spells' I've been having, and the other the fact that I'd had a period that's more or less been going on for two and a half years. So I asked about both of those things; the female bit required ten days of hormone therapy and a trip back after (next Monday), and the head spells turned out to be petit mal seizures. For those who aren't aware, petit mals are on the minor end of the seizure scale, so they're not serious; more of an annoyance and a disruption of daily life, really. Occasionally they result in headaches or a 'weird feeling' for the rest of the day, but more often than not, I get over them pretty quickly.

So I got my diagnosis, which had me worried originally since I wasn't sure I'd be able to describe it clearly enough. He said it was a perfectly accurate description of the condition at hand, though, so he wrote it up right away and told me to go get a blood test and run up to the CAT scan room. I did so; the nurse who took my blood did so pretty painlessly, and got it on the first try, but the nurse putting the dye in my bloodstream for the scan took five or six tries to hit a vein, and got some pretty good yelps from me. Actually, she tried twice and called someone else in, but her aim wasn't much better, I've still got bruises all over my arms (and had a slight allergic reaction to the dye), but came out otherwise unscathed. I'm supposed to go back next monday, as I said, as soon as I've taken all the hormone tablets I was given.

I don't know what the solution will be to these seizures yet, but I'm eager to get them shut down because I've had about five of them today. Anyway, that's it. More later, I'm kinda tired...

This is true about the driving issue, and something I hadn't considered since I don't drive yet... I will ask him what he thinks of it all when I go back this week. Hey, at least I'm entering a big family, all of whom *can* drive. ;o)
